Mark 6:34 "…and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd… "

In These Anxious Times

Our era is truly an era that humans have never seen before. And it isn’t tracking to bode well for us. No one who can actually change our trajectory of history is doing anything to help us, because money, politics, power, and then money again, are the important things in our society, not the preservation of common humanity or of the planet.

There is more for you, more about you than what happens in this life. Think of this life as the testing ground for when your greatest and best life, what we might call the afterlife, with Christ begins. Yes, everyday life is difficult in just trying to get by and no one is immune to it. Jesus acknowledges that things are difficult and still tells us not to worry:

Matthew 6:34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Scroll through to Matthew 6:25-34 to read His entire message on anxiety, as Matthew 6:34 is a summary of His teaching on the subject.

Even with our present everyday struggles and with the bleak future that we can imagine, we do have hope. Our hope is in Christ. How do we keep our hope alive?

By remembering Jeremiah 29:11 and remembering His love (1 John 4:19) and mercy (1 Peter 1:3).

By bringing all things to Him in prayer (Philippians 4:6-7).

Remembering that He, too, had many sorrows (Isaiah 53).

Remembering that He, too, went through temptations, just like us (Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:13; Luke 4:1-13).

By remembering that our temptations, as many as they may be, as difficult as they may be, are really just common to everyone (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Remembering that He made us (Colossians 1:16-17) and sees us (Hebrews 4:13) and understands us (Hebrews 4:15).

And, by remembering that there is something better for us, for those who belong to Him. Our future (Revelation 21).
